Its downstream concrete support extends 3m and has a concave profile. At one end of the weir, a 1.3 m section of the weir lip is lower, directing most of the water down a concrete channel.
The site is located with-in the heart of the Forestry Commission, to the south-east of the Hill of Hobseat at the junction of the Cowie Water with the Burn of Finglennie. The coastal town of Stonehaven is six miles to the east. Access can be taken along a network of forest tracks to the site from along approx. 2.5 miles of track, either directly off the A957 Stonehaven, Banchory road or from Mergie, off a minor public road from Rickarton to Kirkton of Fetteresso & Swanley
